Working Through Challenges to Celebrating Wins….We’re Always Best Together

I started my career in consumer advertising with an incredible company that I worked at for over 6 years. I felt connected and rewarded by the work I was doing, but at the same time, I felt a void in my life. While I enjoyed the clients we worked with and the cool creative we launched for them, I wanted something more but couldn’t figure out what it was. After I left that company, one of my friends said to me, "Joanne, I truly believe you would be great working in pharmaceuticals."

There is a belief among some that working in pharma marketing and advertising is boring and lacks creativity. However, now that I have worked in this field for 10 years, I can say that is far from the truth. Some of the most frequent questions I’m asked are “Why healthcare? “Isn’t healthcare boring and regulated?” “Doesn’t it stifle creativity?” The answer is NO!

Healthcare is fascinating. Yes, it’s complex, but it’s amazing to see how my teams and I can support a wide variety of product and drug solutions that truly help improve a patient’s quality of life. I absolutely love having a career that is focused on bringing forth solutions that help empower patients and healthcare providers to make informed decisions about their treatment options. Whether working on treatments for cancer, diabetes, autoimmune or cardiovascular diseases, my teams and I partner with all functions at Real Chemistry to advance innovative solutions that push our clients to think outside the traditional box and utilize platforms that target HCPs and patients.

It's extremely gratifying to work with teams that share my drive, passion and dedication to bringing to life ideas that are transformative for both patients and providers – and award-winning to boot! How does the magic, or dare I say Chemistry, happen? It occurs because we all embody working “Best Together” – a core value at Real Chemistry and something that I, as Director of Project Management, work hard to strive for. Especially in a project management role, it’s crucial to be able to bring all teams together, facilitate work together, listen together, and respect each other and all opinions or solutions that we bring to the table daily. That is the only way we can drive such impactful results – by working in partnership with clients, colleagues and people throughout the healthcare ecosystem, including those at the FDA. Throughout all our interactions, our “Best Together” value shines through.

Working for 21GRAMS, part of Real Chemistry, I see daily how this core value holds true for the broader organization. We naturally embrace collaboration and working together, and this value holds everyone accountable. It reminds me that I can’t do my job without Account Management, and they can’t do their jobs without Strategic, Medical or Creative input and insight – and it’s only when we act as a collective that we can create greatness.

I like to regularly remind myself of the “Best Together” value – regardless of whether I’m navigating a challenging situation, celebrating a big win or a product launch. Working “Best Together” truly has shaped my work experience – yielding the most positive results and making working in healthcare the most fulfilling career I’ve ever had. Not only am I able to help people, but I get to do so surrounded by the best and with a team that has my back.
