Friedreich’s Back
Knowing the Friedreich ataxia (FA) community leans on humor, laughter, and social media to cope with their progressive disease, we created a video series featuring the disease’s long dead discoverer to educate FA patients about the first ever treatment, resulting in 10 million views (and counting) and 5,000 website conversions for a community of 15,000.
“I can’t wait for my family to see it.”

When a neurological disease with only 15,000 patients worldwide got its first ever treatment since its discovery in 1863 by German scientist Nikolaus Friedreich, the news wasn’t enough to convince patients to try it. They needed more information. They needed an expert they could trust.
So we dug up the guy who discovered the disease. No, really. We brought Nikolaus Friedreich back from the dead to help people learn about SKYCLARYS. Knowing that patients leant on humor and social media use to cope with their disease, we created Friedreich’s Back, a narrative comedy series written for TikTok and Meta. We worked directly with the FA patient community to write nine episodes that use humor to help people understand the benefits of SKYCLARYS. Giving patients an expert that knows as much about the disease as they do, each episode explores the unique product attributes of the drug through the curious lens of the (undead) scientist who discovered FA.
