Doing More, Together
Collaboration is at the heart of life science innovation. It is front-and-center in key research partnerships to accelerate treatments and cures to patients. It’s built into licensing agreements and financing rounds to ensure companies have resources to drive R&D. And, in the last several years, collaboration is at the heart of industry community engagement, driven by Life Science Cares.
Life Science Cares activates the financial and human capital of the life sciences industry and partners with nonprofits to disrupt the cycle of poverty and inequality in Greater Boston, Philadelphia, New York, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area. To meet this mission, LSC is building a network of companies, executives and employees committed to making a difference–a network of good.
To date, more than 450 industry leaders–including Jim Weiss, Aaron Strout, Nicole Foderero and the broader Real Chemistry family–have signed on to help. Hear more about why folks like Ted Love, Nina Kjellson, John Maraganore and Maria Luisa Pineda contribute their time, talent and resources to Life Science Cares.
We believe it will take the power of public, private and nonprofit organizations working together to bring about a transformative impact on the intractable and generational issue of poverty. We’ve learned that committing to invest in our community has a meaningful and measurable impact on company culture and employee satisfaction. Volunteering helps build teams, provides opportunity for leadership development and just feels good. And the more we can show up collectively and consistently as a force for good in the community, the more impact we can make and the more public trust we can gain.
We’re excited to showcase this intersection of philanthropy, community and public trust at next week’s J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference. Life Science Cares, in partnership with Real Chemistry, will host a discussion centered on how industry can respond to data showing Americans' perception of the pharmaceutical industry is at its lowest point this century.
Panelists Ted Love, Chairman, BIO; Julie Gerberding, Chief Executive Officer, FNIH; and Josh Becker, California State Senator; will make the case for why industry must band together for a “Reputation Reboot,” rebuilding public trust, investing in solutions to our most difficult social issues, and showing up for the communities in which we live and work.
The panel will be introduced by LSC Founder Rob Perez and moderated by Real Chemistry Founder & Chairman Jim Weiss.
The only way we will make a meaningful difference—on poverty or on improving the industry’s reputation—will be in working together.

Join Our Network for Good
As summed up so well by Jeffrey Hessekiel, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Exelixis and Board Co-Chair of Life Science Cares Bay Area, “The business of life sciences is super challenging, demanding that life science professionals be smart, talented, and hard-working. In my experience, they are also kind, compassionate, and generous. Life Science Cares takes great advantage of those positive attributes, unlocking the potential for life science companies and people to be a powerful force for good in their communities.”
We look forward to welcoming you to our powerful network of life science companies working together to do so much good. Together, we can make a difference.
